THE NEXT OPTIMIST MEETING WILL BE HELD AT THE WALZEM FAMILY YMCA!  During the months of January and February, the Windcrest Civic Center will be closed for renovations.  During this period, Student Recognition Programs will be held at the Walzem Family YMCA, 5538 Walzem Road (old Albertsons store on Walzem - east of Midcrown).  So - Tuesday morning, January 10, we gather at the Walzem Family YMCA - see you there.

 

The evening meeting on January 23 will be held at Papa Dante's in Converse (Toepperwein at FM1976).  Program will be presented by David Force from Morgan's Wonderland.

 

Plans are in progress for a day/night golf tournament on March 24, and a fertilizer sale on March 31 - our two major fund raisers for the year.

 

The Burkes, Greenwoods, and Melsons attended the first quarter district meeting in Bryan.

 

The Christmas Lights-Up Project was rained out on December 3, but completed on the following Saturday thanks to 25 Roosevelt students working under the guidance of Optimists Andy, Don, Larry, Paul, BJ, Walt, Bob K, Rick (and Gina),and Chris.  Special Optimist thanks go to Chairman Don Myles for leading the project.

 

Andy and Vi Biancardi, Don and Mary Jo Myles, and Larry attended the Optimist Oncology Christmas Party on December 3.  This annual project sponsored by the FT Sam, Alamo Heights, and Windcrest Optimist Clubs helped 37 families this year.

 

October Student Recognition Program was conducted at the 10/11/11 meeting.   Following NEISD students were presented plaques by President Andy:  East Terrell Hills Elementary - Karla Clemens;  Montgomery Elementary - Malia Barnes;  Walzem Elementary - Maria Mares;  Windcrest Elementary - Sophia Ramos;  Krueger Middle School - Liliana Abrego; White Middle School - Rachael DeJesus;  and Roosevelt High School - Joshua Roberts.

 

November Student Recognition Program was conducted at the 11/08/11 meeting.   Following NEISD students were presented plaques by President Andy:  East Terrell Hills Elementary - Max Aguirre;  Montgomery Elementary - Melanie Perez;  Walzem Elementary - Mirna Gasca;  Windcrest Elementary - Clarisa Chavez;  Krueger Middle School - Casimiro Saenz; White Middle School - Edgar Sanchez Martinez;  and Roosevelt High School - Kevin Sebastian.
